Automated Promotion Assets Launched in Google Ads

Screenshot of Google Ads documentation explaining how automated promotion assets work, with sections on requirements and functionality for Search and Performance Max campaigns with location assets.

Google Ads has introduced a new account-level automated asset called Automated promotions. This feature allows Google to scan landing pages for active promotional offers, such as ‘20% off black sweaters’ or ‘Buy one get one free’, and automatically create a new promotion asset and attach it to eligible Search and Performance Max ads.

This feature is designed to boost both online purchases and store visits through campaigns with location assets attached. Crucially, it skips any campaign that already runs manual promotion assets, and each sourced promotion is eligible for less than 24 hours before it must be re-verified.

Advertisers concerned about Google automatically extracting promotions can opt out in the account-level automated assets settings.

To be eligible, campaigns must meet requirements including having active Search or Performance Max campaigns with location assets and not running existing manual promotions.

Note: This update relates to Promotion assets for Search and Performance Max campaigns, not to Automated Promotions, a separate feature available in Google Merchant Center.
