If you’re using Demand Gen campaigns to grow your YouTube audience, there’s now a powerful new way to keep viewers engaged. First seen in May and now officially announced, this update brings follow-on views optimization into the game.

Google has introduced optimization for follow-on views, allowing advertisers to connect with users who are more likely to continue watching content from your channel after seeing your ad.

Follow-on views are counted when a viewer watches additional videos from your YouTube channel after being exposed to one of your ads. With this new feature, you can now optimize your campaigns not just for a single interaction but for deeper engagement across your channel.

These are organic views driven after the initial ad, ideal for building long-term viewers and subscribers.

You’ll find it under: Conversions Summary > Engagements > Edit goal > YouTube follow-on views.

Set it as a Primary action to optimize for deeper engagement, or keep it as a Secondary to just track the data.
