Starting March 31, 2025, YouTube will count a Shorts view every time a video starts playing or replays with no minimum watch time is required.

This change gives creators a fuller picture of their reach, especially those posting across multiple platforms.

What stays the same?

  • The original view metric, now called “Engaged views”, remains in YouTube Analytics > Advanced Mode to track how many people keep watching.
  • Monetization & Partner Program eligibility will still be based on engaged views.

With this update, you may see higher view counts, helping you better showcase your content’s performance to brands and agencies.
