Merchant Center Now Supports Website-Based Local Inventory Feeds

Google has introduced website-reported autofeeds, a new way to automatically import your in-store inventory into Merchant Center using Google Tag Manager.

Instead of uploading a local inventory feed, merchants can now report product availability when users check for nearby stock directly on the website.

How it works:

  • When users click “Check in-store availability”, a GTM tag is triggered.
  • The tag collects product info (availability, store code, price, etc.)
  • Google then syncs this to Merchant Center in real-time.

✅ No need for a dedicated local inventory feed
✅ Works for local inventory ads or free local listings
✅ Helps show accurate availability across local listings
✅ Best for businesses with physical stores and active product pages

Requires:

  • Google Tag Manager setup
  • Product pages that allow store selection
  • Technical ability to pass inventory data via GTM
