Google Revises Opioid Painkiller Ad Policy

Initially planned for June, Google postponed this update due to implementation challenges.

In August 2024, Google will revise its Healthcare and Medicines policy to allow verified election advertisers to refer to opioid painkillers in their ads without promoting or selling them.

While ads promoting prescription opioid painkillers remain banned, certified public health campaigns, addiction treatment providers, and election advertisers can apply for certification to mention opioids. Advertisers must comply with local laws and Google’s guidelines to qualify.
