Google announced various changes for Youtube on TV.
It is testing a new approach to ads on YouTube for TV devices: fewer ads but with longer durations, reminiscent of conventional commercial breaks on linear TV.
YouTube is also refining the ad timer on TV to provide viewers with a clearer indication of the time left in the ad break.
Additionally, Rene Ritchie, YouTube Liaison, shared that simplified ad controls will be rolling out in November:
- Turn ads on or off (you get pre/post skippable/non-skippable decided by the system)
- If ads are on, you can also turn midrolls on (no changes to midrolls, except…)
- Midrolls can still be manual or automatic — or (NEW!) mix of both
