Image Extraction to Be Enabled by Default in Performance Max

Image Extraction to Be Enabled by Default in Performance Max

Starting December 4, 2026, image extraction will be enabled by default for newly created Performance Max campaigns in Google Ads, including the Google Ads API, UI, and Editor.

This change applies even if Dynamic Image Extensions are disabled at the account level, shifting from the previous behavior where campaign settings inherited from account-level configurations.

With image extraction, Google AI scans provided landing pages for high-resolution images to enhance creative assets, expanding reach across platforms like Search, YouTube, Display, Discover, Gmail, and Maps. Existing Performance Max campaigns will maintain their current settings. Developers wanting to disable this feature must explicitly set OPTED_OUT on new campaigns.

Image extraction management is handled at the campaign level through the asset_automation_settings field. Developers can choose between OPTED_IN or OPTED_OUT using specified API parameters.
