Google Clarifies GG_ Transaction IDs

Google Explains GG_ Transaction IDs

Advertisers facing issues with transaction IDs starting with GG_ in Tag Assistant or reports now have official clarification. According to a new section on the help page, these are temporary, system-generated identifiers indicating that your own transaction ID isn’t being assigned, potentially affecting deduplication.

The help document titled ‘Use a transaction ID to minimize duplicate conversions‘ now includes a section on ‘Understand Google-generated transaction IDs (the GG_ prefix)’. This section explains that a GG_ prefix should be treated as a blank transaction ID, urging advertisers to troubleshoot their data layer.

Verification steps have also been updated. Option A uses Google Tag Assistant to inspect the ‘transaction_id’ parameter in the Hits tab, while Option B employs Chrome DevTools, focusing on the ‘oid’ parameter within Google Ads conversion requests.
