Google introduced AI Max for Standard Shopping campaigns in April 2026, and the feature is now appearing live in advertiser accounts.

It enables conversational intent matching, connecting Shopping ads to a wider array of natural-language searches, beyond exact product terms.

Among the key capabilities are:

  • Text customization: Ad copy is tailored using Merchant Center feed details to enhance shopper engagement.
  • Final URL expansion: Traffic is directed to the most relevant page on the site, based on feed data.
  • Format flexibility: Google automatically selects whether a shopper sees a Shopping or text ad.
  • Control retention: Existing targeting and bidding strategies remain intact, with options to limit to Shopping ads only.

The interface displays a toggle switch for activating AI Max, which demonstrates a potential for advertisers to see increased conversion performance.
