GML 2026: Measurement Updates for Demand Gen on YouTube

Two panelists discuss campaign measurement at a marketing conference, with a large screen displaying the question "How do I know my campaigns are paying off?" and the number 3 visible on the right side.

Google has shared new updates focused on improving measurement and attribution for Demand Gen campaigns on YouTube.

GML 2026: New Measurement Updates for Demand Gen on YouTube

One of the biggest additions is Campaign type attribution, which will show every conversion that Demand Gen contributes to across the customer journey. Previously, deduplicated reporting made it harder for advertisers to understand how Demand Gen assisted conversions alongside other campaign types.

Google also announced expanded collaboration with third party measurement partners like TransUnion to include YouTube views in multi touch attribution models. This aims to provide advertisers with a more complete picture of video performance beyond click based reporting.

The company also reinforced the importance of engaged view conversions, where users watch at least 5 seconds of a YouTube ad before converting later.

According to Google, only 40% of Demand Gen conversions happen within the first 30 days, highlighting the long term impact of YouTube campaigns.
