We already reported that call-only ads are being deprecated in Google Ads. Now, Google has announced key changes to the Google Ads API that affect how developers manage these ads moving forward.

Starting in January 2026, API users will no longer be able to create or duplicate call-only ads across any API version or Google Ads interface. From that point, only existing call-only ads will remain active, and support for them will fully sunset by February 2027.

Key API milestones include:

  • January 2026: Creation and duplication of call-only ads will be blocked.
  • Until February 2027: Existing ads can still serve and be manageable via API.
  • February 2027: All call-only ads will stop serving and be removed from API support.

Google recommends migrating to Responsive Search Ads (RSAs) with call assets, which offer better performance and are built on a modern infrastructure.
