Google has released its annual Merchant Center product data specification update, with changes rolling out now, and additional updates coming July 1, 2025. Here’s what you need to know.

Changes effective immediately (April 8, 2025)

  • Down payment no longer in [price]: For installment pricing, you must now use the downpayment sub-attribute under installment. The price attribute should reflect the full upfront cost.
  • New [certification] attribute in the EU: Replaces energy efficiency class fields for EU countries, supporting both rescaled and non-rescaled labels. Existing fields remain valid in the UK, Norway, and Switzerland.
  • New shipping attributes: To improve delivery estimates, Google has added:
    • carrier_shipping
    • shipping_handling_business_days
    • shipping_transit_business_days

Changes effective July 1, 2025

  • US sales tax attributes being phased out: tax and tax_category attributes, as well as Merchant Center tax settings, will no longer be required. Disapproved offers due to missing tax info may start serving again. Note: Tax submission is still mandatory until July 1, 2025.
  • No more member pricing in [price] or [sale_price]: Submit member-only prices via the loyalty_program attribute where supported. Using [price] or [sale_price] for member pricing after this date may lead to disapprovals.
