The Latest Changes for Youtube on TV

Split screen showing two images. Left: TV screen with a woman and ad timer "1 of 2 • 0:15." Right: TV updates display a door, options to "Send to phone," and a skip ad countdown "Skip in 17." Arrows connect the images, highlighting Youtube on TV's seamless ad interruption transition.

Google announced various changes for Youtube on TV.

It is testing a new approach to ads on YouTube for TV devices: fewer ads but with longer durations, reminiscent of conventional commercial breaks on linear TV.

YouTube is also refining the ad timer on TV to provide viewers with a clearer indication of the time left in the ad break.

Additionally, Rene Ritchie, YouTube Liaison, shared that simplified ad controls will be rolling out in November:

  • Turn ads on or off (you get pre/post skippable/non-skippable decided by the system)
  • If ads are on, you can also turn midrolls on (no changes to midrolls, except…)
  • Midrolls can still be manual or automatic — or (NEW!) mix of both
Two images display a screen. The first shows a paused YouTube ad labeled "Ad 1 of 2 0:15" with a woman's face. An arrow points to the next image, highlighting a "Skip in 17" button and options to "Send to TV," reflecting recent changes in user interaction features.
