Google has published a new help page for YouTube audio ads. The ad format itself is not new, audio ads have been available for a few years, but until now there was no dedicated “Create YouTube audio ads” guide, making this the first official walkthrough of the format’s specs and setup.

The help page confirms that audio ads reach users on audio surfaces and in listening-first states on both YouTube and YouTube Music.
The creative is a YouTube video link, ideally a static image or simple animation, with a maximum length of 30 seconds, creatives up to 15 seconds serve as non-skippable ads, while 16-30 second creatives serve as skippable ads.
Setup runs through a Video campaign with the Audio subtype under the Brand awareness and reach goal, using Target CPM bidding.
Google also shares best practices, such as aiming for 60-80 words of voiceover in a 30-second ad and keeping a conversational tone.
