“Not a Government Website” Disclosure For Non-Government Advertisers

Starting October 22, 2025, Google Ads will begin automatically adding the disclosure “Not a government website” to all Search ads that promote government documents and services (unless you’re certified as an official government provider).

This change applies to all Search ad formats and is part of an update to the “Other restricted businesses: Government documents and services” policy. The goal is to make ad intent clearer to users and reduce potential confusion around unofficial service providers.

The rollout begins October 22, with full enforcement expected over a four-week period.
