Google Ads is introducing Text Guidelines, a new campaign-level feature designed to help advertisers guide how AI generates text assets in Performance Max and AI Max for Search campaigns.

This feature supports two methods of refinement:

  • Term exclusions to block specific words or phrases (up to 25)
  • Message restrictions using natural language to define concepts or styles to avoid (up to 40)

For example, adding “Don’t imply our products are discounted” will steer the AI away from using terms like “cheap” or “bargain.” The goal is to ensure that auto-generated text remains on-brand and aligned with business messaging.
