Google has sent out emails apologizing for a technical error that caused product ads from other advertisers to display on various accounts starting July 30th. The issue, which affected a small number of accounts, was identified and fixed by Google on July 31st.
Google assured advertisers that no personal or payment information was compromised, and no charges were incurred for these ads. Incorrect data has been removed from reports, and impacted users have been notified via email.
As noted in the email, this issue is unrelated to the recent migration to Google Merchant Center Next.
Two separate emails were sent out, both intended for affected accounts:
- One indicating that the advertisers will receive free credit compensation.
- The other making no mention of credit.
It is unclear why as all accounts that received these emails were impacted.
