Google is rolling out a mixed media ad creation flow for Demand Gen, combining images, videos, carousels, product feeds and text in a single ad.
The update also removes video level creative preference controls for new ads. Google will automatically select placements based on video dimensions. Without a vertical video, square or horizontal videos may appear on Shorts with a blur effect along the top and bottom borders. Advertisers can still restrict videos to specific YouTube surfaces using separate ad groups and channel controls.
The mixed media format applies only to newly created ads. Existing ads remain editable, and advertisers can continue creating single media ads until January 2027. Google says no action is needed.
