Automatic and Manual Payments Renamed to Postpay and Prepay

Google Ads has updated its payment terminology in its billing system, changing ‘Automatic payments’ to Postpay and ‘Manual payments’ to Prepay. Advertisers will find these updates across various billing screens and related help pages.

The change affects around 60 help pages, including glossaries and navigation links, where ‘Postpay’ refers to accounts accruing costs before being charged, and ‘Prepay’ refers to paying before ads run, with ‘prepayments’ for top-ups. Google clarifies that there are no changes to how or when charges occur, but highlights the need for updated documentation in training and support materials.

For instance, the ‘About the postpay payment setting’ page now replaces its older counterpart, and instructions related to switching payment settings reflect the new terminology. Similarly, the section on country availability for payments now follows the ‘Prepay’ nomenclature.
