Google will stop serving political ads in the European Union before the Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising (TTPA) regulation takes effect in October 2025. The company cited challenges with the regulation’s broad definitions, operational requirements, and the lack of clear guidance as reasons for the decision.

This move follows similar actions in France, Canada, and Brazil, where compliance proved difficult. Google reaffirmed its commitment to promoting reliable election information and tackling disinformation while regretting the impact this will have on smaller campaigns leveraging affordable digital ads.
