Microsoft Advertising has rolled out several policy updates globally and across key verticals starting January 2026.

Here’s what’s changing:

  • Gambling and Games (Global): Definitions for games of skill, games of chance, and social sweepstakes casinos have been clarified. All advertisers in this category must now complete the pre-approval process, regardless of format or region.
  • Pharmacy and Healthcare (Global): Online pharmacies and prescription drug advertisers must obtain pre-approval before running campaigns in approved markets.
  • Finance (Europe): Cryptocurrency exchange ads are now permitted in 29 countries, including the UK, France, and Germany, provided advertisers meet eligibility requirements.
  • Food (UK): A new restriction disallows advertising high fat, sugar, and salt (HFSS) foods in the UK starting January 5, 2026.

Advertisers in these sectors should review the updated policy documentation and ensure compliance to avoid disruption.
