Advertisers Upset as Promotional Credits Get Invalidated

Table showing a Google Ads promotion: “$5,000 credit for spending $20,000.” Status is “Inactivated.” Date released is Jul 2, 2025, and the completion deadline is Aug 1, 2025.

Advertisers using Google Ads are experiencing frustration as promotional credits are being revoked after they have been spent. David Melamed reported on LinkedIn that he encountered this issue twice recently. The credits, once spent, were invalidated, leaving advertisers unexpectedly covering costs they thought were subsidized.

He described this practice as “pure theft,” noting that his clients would not have spent the initial $3,200 without the promise of a free credit. He expressed concern over the lack of an appeal process for such invalidations.

Ginny Marvin, Google Ads Liaison, responded to his post, stating she would escalate the issue to the team.

This update was shared by David Melamed and Barry Schwartz.
